Modern Hotel Van Zandt Wedding // Rachel & Ben

Rachel and Ben's wedding at Hotel Van Zandt in downtown Austin was one of my favorite weddings from last year! Everything from the beautiful purple sari's and henna tattoos to the colorful florals designed by Flora & Fauna made the wedding so beautiful and unique.

My favorite part of the day was Rachel & Ben's first look. I originally planned to have it in the hotel lobby, which is stunning, but I quickly changed my plans when I stepped foot in Rachel & Ben's hotel suite. The light-filled modern suite was the perfect private backdrop for their first look. During their first look I asked them if they would like to practice their first dance and without hesitation, Ben put on their song and they danced like no one was watching. I'm so glad we chose to do the first look in their hotel suite because it ended up being so romantic and intimate.

Austin, TX Engagement Session // In-Home Lifestyle Session // Emilie & Ian

This authentic in-home session with Emilie and Ian gave me life! I knew this engagement session would be special when Emilie told me that she wanted to incorporate their love for cooking into their photos. Emilie and Ian spent the evening making homemade pizza, sipping on wine, dancing in their dining room, and snuggling with their pups while I captured all of the sweet moments.

Austin, TX Maternity Session // Laguna Gloria // Callie & Ian

I've known this sweet couple since I met them through a mutual friend back in 2014!  Since then I've been lucky enough to shoot their engagement, wedding, maternity, and newborn photos. I'm so grateful that they chose me to capture some of their most precious moments! The pregnancy glow is real ya'll, look at this beautiful mother glowing with joy!

Santa Barbara Couples Session // Butterfly Beach // Shay & Andrew

When I was in Santa Barbara last March I was lucky enough to shoot with this adorable couple at Butterfly Beach! Andrew and Shay got engaged at Butterfly Beach so it was the perfect location for their short & sweet couples session! We only shot for an hour, but this session gave me a little taste of what it must be like to be a photographer in California. I'm pretty jealous of the photographers who get to shoot in such a beautiful state on a daily basis!

Austin, TX Engagement Photographer // Sekrit Theater // Summer & Barrett

The Sekrit Theater is a magical hidden gem in Austin that I stumbled upon in 2016. Ever since I discovered it I dreamed of having a session there! When Summer & Barrett suggested shooting at Sekrit Theater I knew the session would be one for the books. Their chemistry shines through in these romantic and playful photos, plus look at the gorgeous setting!

Austin, TX Wedding Photographer // Rainy Wedding at Antebellum Oaks // Angela & Derek

In some cultures when it rains on your wedding day it's considered good luck and I believe it after shooting this sweet wedding! Angela and Derek's rainy Austin wedding at Antebellum Oaks was filled with so much joy and love! Despite the rain, they were constantly smiling and laughing with their family and friends.

We used clear bubble umbrellas for all of the outdoor portraits, which added a fun touch to the bridal party portraits and looked so romantic for the bride & groom portraits. Thank you to Angela & Derek for being such a fun and laid-back couple to work with!

Austin, TX Wedding Photographer // Destination Wedding in Key West // Olivia & Justin

One of my best friends got married last year and not only was I a bridesmaid in her wedding (see the sweaty tall blonde in the bridal party photos), but I was also the photographer! Olivia chose to have an intimate wedding in Key West, where we grew up together. I loved the change of scenery and pace compared to Texas weddings, plus I got to see old friends and family while I was in town!

We spent the morning getting ready at her dad's gorgeous old conch house, which was filled with nautical art and wood panel walls - seriously swoon worthy! The light filled church they chose to have their ceremony in, The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea, was also a photographers dream. After the ceremony, we went to Bahama Village and Fort Zachary Taylor for some quick bride and groom portraits and ended our evening at Kelly's Caribbean for a dance-filled reception.

I am grateful that I was able to spend such a special day with so many people who are dear to my heart <3

Austin, TX Wedding Photographer // Rooftop Picnic Couples Session // Mackenzie & Chisam

Since Mackenzie and Chisam got engaged last weekend (proposal photos to come in another blog post), I figured it's about time to share the photos from a couples session I shot with them last December in downtown Austin! We planned a romantic rooftop picnic with a beautiful view of Austin - more rooftop sessions please! The chemistry between these two is pretty obvious from the photos, scroll down to see for yourself. Congratulations to Mackenzie and Chisam on their recent engagment!

Outfit Inspiration and Tips for Engagement Sessions // Kayla Snell Photography // Austin, Texas Wedding Photographer

Engagement Session Outfit Inspiration Austin Wedding Photographer

In the past few years, I've had multiple clients ask me the same question over and over again, "What should we wear for our engagement session?". I'm far from a stylist, but I can appreciate a well-styled outfit when I see one! From my experience as a photographer, I've learned what photographs well and what should be avoided when it comes to picking out the perfect outfit for an engagement session.

I decided to write this post because recently I was in your shoes, searching for the perfect outfit to wear for a shoot. As camera shy as I am, I decided it's time to get some photos of myself so I can share more about who I am with my clients and followers! While I was searching for a dress to wear I scrolled past lots of dresses, only choosing ones that represented me best. I also tried to avoid anything with distracting patterns or bright colors.

Why am I telling you about my late night internet shopping? Because I realized that everything I was looking for in an outfit is what my clients should think about when choosing outfits for engagement sessions - comfortable, simple, timeless, and something that feels like YOU! Below are a few outfit inspiration boards that I came up with to give direction when it comes to engagement session outfits.

*** side note - no pressure if these outfits aren't something you'd normally wear, I know everyones style is different and I want you to stay true to yourself!

Think long flowy dresses that you can twirl around in. Dresses that will show texture and movement. Neutral or muted tones and simple patterns. Romantic & timeless.

I offer my couples an outfit change during engagement sessions if they want to take some laid-back photos together in everyday wear. These outfits are also great for an in-home session!

When it comes to menswear I am far from an expert, but here are a few ideas to get you started! Again, aim for neutrals or muted tones, avoid busy/distracting patterns, and keep it simple. Less is more!

Let's be honest, most of us aren't models so we aren't 100% comfortable in front of the camera. If you're wearing something that makes you feel confident AND comfortable I guarantee you'll have so much fun during your engagement session and you will feel like a model by the end of the shoot! Hope this helps some, I'm always available to answer any questions and help my couples with outfit choices.

Allan House Winter Wedding // Callie & Garrett

Callie & Garrett had such a dreamy wedding at the Allan House last January! There's something extra romantic about winter weddings. Here are a few words from the sweet bride about their wedding day:

"We wanted the design and celebration to be true to who we are and what we love. We love travel, tradition and the outdoors so we worked to create a rustic, earthy feel, mixed with vintage and traditional pieces that blended together into the perfect winter wedding. On a personal note, we are both very family oriented, and are blessed to have grandparents and great grandparents that were able to travel for our wedding. We tried hard to find little things that allowed them to be a special part of the day, like having Garrett was walk his grandmother down the aisle, having my grandmothers bake homemade pies for our dessert table, and taking time to capture moments with them throughout the night.  It was truly the best day and we have amazing photos to prove it." - Callie

Austin, Texas Fine Art Engagement Photographer // Kayla Snell Photography // South Congress Couples Session // Carrie & Seth

Last fall I had the pleasure to meet and shoot with Carrie & Seth! We started the shoot on South Congress Ave for a mixture of portraits and lifestyle inspired images. South Congress made the perfect backdrop for the Austin vibe that they wanted.  After walking around South Congress we made our way down the street to Little Stacey Park (my neighborhood park!) for a change of scenery. I never knew about this park till I moved into the neighborhood, it is such a hidden gem in Austin!

Austin, Texas Fine Art Wedding Photographer // Engagement Session // Pieous + Jester King // Mary & Al

I can't believe it's already September! I've seriously been awful at blogging my shoots, but in honor of Mary & Al getting married this weekend I wanted to share their engagement session! We started at Pieous and then ended up at Jester King, literally two of my favorite places to visit in Hill Country (does it get any better than pizza & beer?).
